15 - If Ever I got an Award for Being the Best Support

Hi! I think this will be my last post for this month so I wanted to make something " Unique" and "Imaginative".This didn't really happen, but the part of being the Supreme Champion is true! Have fun reading my super realistic script of me getting an award for being the best support that ever lived in the universe.

"I’d like to thank APC Gaming Genesis Organization for allowing me to be here today. I never thought I would be here at all. This is a big achievement for me. I am pleased to receive the award for the best support in the League of Legends Tournament. Receiving this award is such an amazing honor.

I never thought that I would win this kind of award. Thanks to my team, BasuRAMS, I wouldn’t receive this award .To be honest, I wasn’t really good at playing as a support. Yet they still listed me in their group without my permission. I was nervous playing this role. Unlike me, all my teammates were veterans in League of Legends. I was the only one with a beginner skills. I was sure that we would lose in our first match. In turned out that we won all our matches. Their guidance was the reason that I was able to become a good support."

Once again I want to thank my teammates for helping me snatch this award. This wouldn’t be possible without your help. I’d like to thank my Mom and Dad for supporting me to be a support, even though you were against it at first. I couldn’t have done it without you guys. Thank you all again!"

14 - Anti-Smoking Campaign(Am I a Smoker?)

For decades, humans have been smoking. Even knowing what it may cause to their body, they still smoke. Why do humans smoke? What can it cause? How can we stop it? This are the questions you might have asked before.

Why do humans use smoke?
Before we answer that, we must know what's a cigarette made of. According to quitsmokingsupport.com, "Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 known cancer-causing (carcinogenic) compounds and 400 other toxins. These cigarette ingredients include nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic, and DDT.Nicotine is highly addictive. Smoke containing nicotine is inhaled into the lungs, and the nicotine reaches your brain in just six seconds."

How can Nicotine affect our brain? Nicotine acts like a Acetylcholine which is responsible for muscle movement, breathing, heart rate, learning, and memory.  It also affects your mood, appetite, memory, and more. When Nicotine reaches your brain, it mimics what a Acetylcholine.

What can it cause?
According to healthline.com, "Cigarettes contain about 600 ingredients. When they burn, they generate more than 7,000 chemicals. Many of those chemicals are poisonous and at least 69 of them can cause cancer. it affects all parts of your body. For instance, your lungs will have trouble clearing itself because of all the toxins that cigarette left. Smokers have a higher risk of respiratory infections, colds, and flu.

How can we stop it?
I don't have any experience on smoking, so I don't know how hard it is to remedy this. Law won't stop it. The only way you can stop smoking is to stop yourself. Nobody can tell you to stop smoking. Only you can stop yourself. Know what risk you are taking. Understand how it will affect the people around you. Family and friends can also help you stop smoking. Only those people you trust in the family.

You know what it will cause. It is up to you if you'll accept the consequences

13 - How Long can we Live?

Have you ever asked yourself how long can you live? Or maybe why we grow old and die? Another question you might've asked is how can you extend or prolong your life span? Some animals live longer than humans. For instance, a Galapagos tortoise can live up to 175 years. Even trees live longer than us, like the Bristlecone pine that can live one thousand years.

How long can you live? According to the AWAKE! Magazine, the approximate life span of humans is eighty to ninety years. Too short, right? Creatures who have total control of their mind and body die quickly, yet animals and trees, who live by instincts, live for more than 100 years. Can science solve this? According to the Scientific American magazine, "Science has met the limited access in extending adult longevity". They also revealed that scientists are exploring developments in a field of genetics called epigentics. What is Epigenetics? In the same article, they defined Epigenetics as the study of the cell called epigenome, which means above the genome or the one that is responsible in turning on and off the genes.

They also found that it plays a big role in the cause of ageing.Evidence also suggests that humans were originally designed to live longer. It can be seen in the power of the brain, its power to learn so much. The Encyclopedia of the Brain and Brain Disorders states that the long-term memory capacity of the human brain is "virtually unlimited.

How long can you live? The Bible's answer is clear: We can have the hope of living forever. A hope that will be fulfilled after God cleanses the earth of all its badness. A hope that is sure to be happen in the future. In this world, nothing is permanent. But in God's love, living forever is possible."Now, however, these three will remain forever: faith, hope, love; but the greatest of these is love"- 1 Corinthians 13:13.

12 - SoCSIT All English Term

When I enrolled to APC as a Computer Science student, my expectations was that I will only study  a lot of math and computer stuff. I received my schedule for the first term. I got confused. "Why is it all English subjects?", I asked myself. My schedule consists of: Public speaking classes, Technical and Expository Writing,Grammar and Communication, College Algebra, IT Concepts. The question is, "Do I like it or Do I love it?" The answer is I don't like it or love it. To tell you the truth, I don't like English subjects, even back then when I was in High school. I was suffering inside when I knew about my subject for the first term.

At first, I didn't like it at all, especially public speaking. To speak in front of an audience or group of people, it's was my greatest weakness. Every time I would deliver a speech in front, I get so nervous and my stomach starts to hurt. Every week I worry about what will happen in my public speaking class. My heart would beat like a drum every time its public speaking class. I was suffering inside. After several weeks, I kind of adjusted myself to speaking in front, but not improved in it. I've come to learn that this class sole purpose is to train us for the better. Helping us improve in speaking so that when we graduate, we won't be left out in the industry. Now, I don't hate public speaking, but if you asked me to do attend another public speaking class next term, I would DECLINE the offer.

As for the other subjects, I didn't have any trouble at it. Technical and Expository writing isn't hard at all. Grammar and Communication is also fine for me. I can't wait for this term to end. No hate please.

11 - Using Cellphone While Driving

Should you use your cell phone while driving? I know not all of us drives a car. Majority of us rides public transportation. Often, the driver uses his cell phone while driving which makes them more prone to accident. I'm going to tell you two things, first is why drivers use cell phone while driving. And what is causes.

Why drivers use cell phones while driving

  • When you’re alone driving a long distance, it gets lonely and you might want to talk to somebody.
  • If you are a businessman, you would want to keep up with your work even when you're driving.
  • Maybe the driver is stuck in traffic, they use their cell phones to not get bored.
What it causes
  • When the driver is using the cellphone, his focus is shifted to the cell phone instead of the road, thus making them more prone to accident.

A recent study from the National Safety Council found that 26 percent of all car accidents were caused by a driver using a cell phone, only five per cent to texting while drivingThe 4th cause of mortality in the Philippines: Accidents. Statistics show that twenty- eight percent of traffic accidents occur when people talk on their cell phones. I will ask you again. Should you use your cell phone while driving? Remember that it's not just your life at stake, you will also put other people's life on the line. So if you see anyone in your family using their cell phone while driving, tell them that it's not

10 - Do I Have What it Takes to be a Filipino?

Do you have what it takes to be a Filipino? There's no denying that all of us here have the same Filipino blood, but does that prove that we're Filipino? A lot of people don't know what it means to be a Filipino. Before I answer that question, I'm going to talk about the two things. First is the qualities of a Filipino and then I'll explain why we should be proud to be Filipinos. After that, I'll answer the question.

Filipinos have a lot of positive traits that makes them stand out of other nationalities. These traits have been passed down from generation to generation. These traits are the exact meaning of what a Filipino should be.

Filipinos has a strong relationship to their families. We see the importance and the value of each member of the family. We see it regardless if they are young or old. Even though their children already has children of their own, they don't put their parents in nursing homes. In our family, my grandfather decided built a three storey house so that his three children would live together with them even after they have their own family. Filipinos do really care for their family.

A remarkable quality of a Filipino is his capacity to endure problems and hardships. For instance,  the long suffering  they endured during the many colonization in the Philippines back then. Even now, there were a lot of typhoons that Philippines experienced. Even today, we always show that we can face our problems without giving up. My father told me that when he was at my age, they didn't have money for them to study in school. But did that stop him? No. He worked hard everyday,  He worked at the morning and go to school at night. Now his more successful  than he thought he could be. This shows that we Filipinos can endure anything that comes in our way.

We Filipinos have strong respect to our elders. We practice saying " Po" and "Opo" to people who are older or has higher position than us. I'm guilty that I don't use it to my parents and grandparents. Even though I seldom say those, I still show respect to them by taking their advices or doing what they told me to do. Respect for the older ones won't be removed in our culture.

Why should we be proud to be called "Filipinos" ? In the poem " I am Filipino" written by Carlos P. Romulo, there is a stanza that says, " In my blood runs the immortal seeds of heroes. Seeds that bloomed down the centuries. In deeds of courage and defiance. In my veins runs the same hot blood that led our forefathers in battle. Against alien foes, against foreign oppressors , with courage and defiance." Our ancestors displayed the very meaning of being a Filipino. They showed that we Filipinos are united as one, no matter what the situation is. We should be proud that we are the seeds that bloomed from their hard work and perseverance.

My answer would be yes. Even though we have some foreign blood that runs in our veins, the traits we show to the world are the very reason that we should be called Filipinos.

9 - What Makes Someone a Hero?

What makes someone a hero? Before answering that question, let Sir Tatsen define what the word "hero" means. The reference.com website defines the word hero as " a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities."

There are lot of known heroes that have made their name known all over the world. For instance, in our country, our national hero is none other than Dr. Jose Rizal. What did he do that made him a hero in the Philippines? He used his ability to write to expose the oppressors that colonized the Philippines. Even though he knew that he would be hunted by the villains, he bravely spread his novels in different parts of the world. His will to free his countrymen was not wasted. His actions resulted to the freedom we are having right now.
There's this game called " Assassin's Creed" where you play as an assassin. What is an assassin? It's a person hired to kill someone without being caught or seen. In this game , the main character lives in a corrupt city where leaders are evil. The main goal of the main character is to rid of the corrupt leaders. Obviously, the main character kills other people. What is the purpose of the main character? He's goal is to make a change in their city. In order to restore peace, he must eliminate those who caused the city's suffering. I believe that it's an act of being a hero. Why? Because the main character's goal is to stop the malpractice and the abuse to the innocent people.

How can you be a hero? Do we have to take someone's life? Or maybe sacrifice ours? No. We can be a hero  in small ways. Just giving few coins to the beggar makes you a hero. Helping the old ones also makes you a hero. Being a hero doesn't mean to everybody, you can be a hero even to a single human being. Being a hero means making a change in someone's life for the better.

8 - Week for SoCSIT

Last month, our school, Asia Pacific College, celebrated a week for the SoCSIT students. They used this to welcome all the freshmen in the SoCSIT. There were a lot of events that they made for us. It was a fun week, especially for the freshmen. We got to experience different kind of events. Let me tell you what I experienced in the SoCSIT week.

Tuesday:

Every section in the SoCSIT had to make a banner that represents them. To make it harder, the them was a "Throwback". Our section decided to base our banner in the style of Windows 95, which is really old looking OS. Then all the section had to line-up in the parking lot so that seniors, along with the professors, could judge the section with the best banner. Before giving the results, they asked us to walk around the parking lot, just like a parade. After all those happened, I never really knew who won because I just left after the "parade" and went to my next class. Even though, it was still a lot of fun.

Wednesday:

Before the SoCSIT week, there was this announcement in a group I joined that there will be a " 30 Seconds of Fame or Shame" event that will be held in Wednesday. They also included what the prize will be for the best performance. The instructions was to perform any act you want in the stage and must be under 30 seconds. You can perform either solo or by group. Knowing that I'm a timid person, I immediately looked for a group to join. We were a five man group and we decided that we will dance. Each of us will perform a dance move that has been famous through the years. Luckily, I picked the "Nae nae" dance, which is more easier for me. So we performed, while bearing the truth that we can't dance well. It turned out to be that we were judged as "Fame"' I believed that it was pure luck that we got the good result. Seeing my classmates perform, along with other students, was really entertaining.

The LoL Tournament:

You might ask, " But sir Tommy, why isn't the subtitle a day?" Let me explain. There was an
announcement in the organization I joined that there will be a LoL tournament. I didn't care about the tournament. I'd rather do all the requirements I need to pass for next week. But then, this friend of mine asked me if I wanted to join their team. I declined his offer. You know what shocked me? This friend of mine already registered me in his team before asking my approval. I didn't have any choice but to play in this tournament. So the tournament went on and on and on. We got through the finals. I never thought we could make it. It was destiny. The only thing blocking that destiny is that our next opponent is the representative of our school. I know that they we're all great players, but at the end, we manage to beat them. It was luck itself that we won the tournament. After the tournament, I vowed that I would never compete in a LoL tournament again. It wasted a lot of my time. I just let this one go, because of that certain someone. I'm glad it ended well.

The only thing I can say is that, I would love to have another go in the SoCSIT week. It was so much fun. Glad I chose to be a student in the SoCSIT.
